Activity Insights
What is Vocabulary?
Vocabulary are the words we use to communicate with others, whether orally or in writing. Children of the same age may have very different oral and written vocabulary skills, depending on their family and socio-economic backgrounds.
Why do students struggle with Vocabulary?
Students who have not been exposed to a word and text-rich environment may have a more limited vocabulary. Those who are learning English as Second Language may also face challenges when identifying the meaning of words accurately.
How do I further support students?
Teachers may want to present and work with some of the vocabulary words in stories before reading the actual text. Second language learners should work with the Vocabulary (ESL) activity.
