Why do students struggle with Story Elements?

Students having difficulty with this activity if they have not paid attention when the story is read. They may also be struggling with basic understanding due to problems of word decoding, so then they don’t pay attention to the story elements.

As you read stories, make sure to ask students lots of questions. You may want to emphasize "where" and "how" questions as these may be hard for students to grasp early in the school year.
