Activity Insights

What is Spelling Words?

In this activity, students must spell words ranging from two to five sound words.

Why do students struggle with Spelling Words?

In order to spell words correctly, students need to recognize and use a range of accurate phonetic representations, visual/structural patterns and common letter sequences represented by high frequency and familiar words. Students having difficulty spelling words related to familiar stories may not be recognizing visual or structural patterns.

How do I further support students?

Have students do the High Frequency Words activity for additional practice.
