Activity Insights

What is Rhyme Matching?

Students need to be able to match words by their onsets (beginning sound in the word) and rimes (ending sound in the word).

Why do students struggle with Rhyme Matching?

Students may have difficulty hearing similar rimes (the vowel sounds following the consonant sound) in words or word families.

How do I further support students?

Read and share poems, stories, and other texts such as nursery rhymes that include plenty of rhyming words.
