Reading (Fluency)

Fluency is the ability to read texts quickly and accurately, using proper speed and expression. Because fluent readers are able to decode words quickly, they can focus on the meaning of a text. Less fluent readers spend more time figuring out words and thus understand less of what the text is saying. Building strong fluency skills is key to a child’s academic success; a child with poor fluency skills risks falling behind in all subjects, not just reading.
